Our Activities
We use all the
following activities to promote youth leadership skills, self esteem,
and stewardship toward the natural environment:
|
Sea Kayaking
We have access to
a fleet of
decked touring kayaks for a group as large as sixteen. We can teach you
basic kayaking skills on Lake Tahoe, or we can take your group on a
kayak camping expedition to the California coast.
|
|
Rock Climbing
We have guided
hundreds of students all over the American West, and we are pursuing
accreditation by the American
Mountain Guides Association. We have access
to all safety gear for your group's use.
|
|
|
Cross-Country
skiing and winter skills courses
Don't let some
cold weather stop your group from enjoying the
out-of-doors! We can help you run fun and safe winter
outings--from a simple ski tour to a snow camping expedition!
|
Note: two
high school students died last year in an avalanche near Lake Tahoe.
This tragedy could have been easily prevented if
they had a basic knowledge of avalanche awareness. We believe anyone
venturing into the winter back-country should be prepared with all
necessary survival skills, including avalanche awareness. We have
access to avalanche beacons and all safety gear for winter travel. Try
one of our winter skills courses. It could save your life!
|
|
Backpacking and
Trekking
This is one of the
best ways to introduce a student group to the out-of-doors. We can plan
a trip of any difficulty and introduce a group to all the skills needed
to safely travel in the back-country while leaving no trace of your
visit.
|
|
|
Naturalist led
hiking and tide-pool explorations
Conservation and
awareness of other life forms is at the heart of everything we do. We
can organize natural history outings for your group and expose your
kids to a whole new world of weird and wonderful creatures! We can also
train teachers
to run their own natural history field courses.
|
|
|
SCUBA and SCUBA
Certification
The path to SCUBA
certification is a big responsibility, but we can certify your group if
you decide to take on the challenge. Derek is a NAUI (National
Association of Underwater Instructors) certified
instructor and is highly trained in marine Biology (MS, Stanford
University).
|
We also offer
River Rafting and Kayaking, and Water-Safety classes.
